55+ Community makes a great beach retirement?

Ginny – My beach retirement cannot be idle…I need to be around people…

So often when we move from our familiar surroundings to our new retirement adventure, we miss our friends we have had for years…and don’t really know how to create that type of social relationship from scratch in our retirement destination. This is why it is very important to get help from a local realtor who has been in the Grand Stand area long enough to know the differences the varying communities present.  While we think we need a 55+ community, very often we really do not.

Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 55+ community.  They often have structured activities for the neighbors and your neighbors are your contemporaries.  I truly understand wanting this type of retirement.  There are some restrictions to this type of neighborhood:

ADULT COMMUNITIES, THE 55+ ASSOCIATIONS: Laws of the land today say that you cannot discriminate for
age along with other issues. The Federal Housing for Older Persons Act of 1995 allowed association and communities
to be exempt from age discrimination if they followed certain guidelines (55+). Basically and simply it says that one
person living in each home must be 55 years of age or older and than no one under 18 can reside in the home and there
are other requirements…(from http://www.flcaj.com/pdfdocs/Richard%205.pdf)

Grandchildren often need to spend the summer with grandparents, and your community does not allow them to stay longer than 30 days, which is quite common. They would be allowed to spend only the allotted time! While this may not be a state or federal mandate, the master deed and rules and regulations of the community may outlaw having children in the home longer than 30 days.

There are many communities that have a large population of folks similar to you who want social Beach Retirement

interaction, like to golf, go to theaters, travel and dine, swim and generally play together.  These communities have structured programs but are not necessarily a designated 55+ community. Additionally, remember that The Grand Strand has many folks such as yourself who have relocated for the wonderful climate, the beach, the golf and are also looking for their new friends!

There is a saying in the Myrtle Beach area that if you are bored, you are not paying attention!

If you are interested in getting a list of the 55+ communities, just send me an email and I will forward it to you.  Better yet, I can arrange for you to receive listings from those communities so you can shop in the privacy of your current home!  Or you can search my website: Ginny’s siteBeach Retirement

Whether you choose a 55+ community, a condo, a single family home, on a golf course, or in a beach community, you can still enjoy a casual, friendly beach retirement in the Myrtle Beach area.  We look forward to meeting you and helping you get your dream…
